Backdrop CMS is much more than "just" a fork of the Drupal 7 CMS, it is a stand-alone product that provides enterprise level software that existing Drupal 7 users can migrate to without having to engage in an ever destabilizing and ever changing world of dependencies, updates and underlying platform requirements. All of this while maintaining the compatibility of the CMS you have loved for the last 10+ years.
